An Excerpt From The Dog Man
"What the hell was that?" Henry whispered to himself as he led Sam away. "Come on Sam. Let's go home," he stated in a weak, stressed-out voice. He put the choke collar and leash on Sam and quickly walked across the meadow toward the trail. Nervously he glanced back at the woods, and an eerie feeling enveloped him. He panicked and took off running.

Terror enveloped Henry as he ran. He didn't know what Sam had seen or scented, but he did know that it had the feeling of evil. A sensation he had not felt since he left the battlefields of Vietnam.

Images of Vietcongs crouching in the steaming jungle flooded his mind. He thought he could see their shadows dashing between the trees and closing in on him. Henry forced his exhausted legs to run faster before the shadows overtook him. His feet pounded the ground as he yanked Sam behind him in his rush to flee from them.

The trail leading out of the woods loomed ahead, but his weary legs were energized by the thought of reaching it. As he reached the trail, a shadowy figure holding a bayonet leaped in front of him. The steel silver blade elongated as the shadowy figure thrust it toward him, a flash of electricity seared Henry's brain as he reeled backward to avoid the razor-sharp blade. Spinning around to flee from the horror, Henry lost his footing. His body seemed to float above the ground before smashing into it. The shadow vanished as Henry scrambled to his feet and dashed down the trail....
